Dove Hunting in South Texas
By Clark Wendlandt
One of my favorite days of the year is September 1st which in Texas is the opening day of dove season. The last few years I had the opportunity to hunt Sammy Nooner’s dove operation down in South Texas. What a great place to hunt/shoot dove. The greatest part of the hunt was I got to share it with my wife, Patti!
As we got out there and got ready to hunt I thought I’d let my wife Patti shoot a few dove and maybe I could help her retrieve a few of her birds. She started shooting and before I knew it she had 13 birds on the ground and was only 2 shy of the limit. I hadn’t even fired a shot. Needless to say the hunting there is incredible! We both killed limits, and Patti beat me easily in getting her limit first. What a great way to share the outdoors. After that was the fun part though, as Angel cooked our fresh dove in the Bradley smoker, and there is no better way to eat dove than in a Bradley!
