Team Yaeckel/Corr Wins IFA Lucas Oil Redfish Open
Winning team takes home more than $15,000
MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. - Travis Yaeckel, of Ruskin, Florida, and Josh Corr, of Fort Myers, Florida, weighed a two-day limit that totaled 26.56 pounds to win the first-ever IFA Lucas Oil Redfish Open presented by Cabela's on April 11 at Placida, Florida. The premier team event paid out over $46,000 in total winnings and will be featured on multiple television networks early next year. With two top-ten finishes at IFA Redfish Tour events at Ruskin and Punta Gorda, the anglers were happy with their first win. The anglers finished day one in fifth place with 13.56 pounds. While other teams struggled to find quality fish on day two, Yaeckel and Corr brought in an even 13 pounds to take first place."We were persistent and stuck to our game plan. As always, we worked well as a team and enjoyed our time on the water," said Yaeckel. "The IFA always runs a first-class tournament and we enjoy the stiff competition."The anglers had clear and calm waters in the mornings with breezes in the afternoons."The fish were plentiful but difficult to catch," said Yaeckel. "The tide was less than ideal, which made conditions tough."Yaeckel and Corr covered a lot of ground on day one and found a few schools of fish. The anglers stayed to one school on day two and fished over grass flats and sand potholes with Berkley Gulp!, hardbaits and soft plastics.Second-place finishers Fred Myers, of Panama City, Florida, and John Ochs, of Englewood, Florida, are familiar names on the IFA Redfish leader boards, including three IFA Championship wins. The anglers finished day one with a total of 14.34 and led the tournament. On day two, the anglers reported the slow tides played a big role in finding quality fish. Their 11.20 pounds wasn't enough to fight off Yaeckel and Corr. Their two-day total of 25.57 won a total of $8,163 in winnings, including $1,275 in Anglers Advantage cash.Fred Leto and Nick Drangle weighed in a total combined weight of 25.19 pounds to take third place. The duo won $6,105 in cash and accrued 198 points in the IFA Redfish Open Team of the Year race.Leto and Drangle experienced tough fishing conditions due to little or no tidal flow the first halves of each day. They fished in the Bull Bay and Pine Island area and were happy to have exceeded their 25-pound goal for the two days. The final IFA Lucas Oil Redfish Open event is set for June 19-20 at Houma, Louisiana.
