SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of North Alabama Lions currently claim the top of the Association of College Anglers' 2015 Cabela's School of the Year leaderboard with a 80 point lead over the previous leaders from earlier in the season, the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.

The two fishing powerhouses have each been atop the Cabela's School of the Year leaderboard numerous times this season and seasons past. Like a mad dog protecting its bone, UNA wants to protect their control of the coveted Cabela's School of the Year Title in the midst of what has been the most competitive college bass fishing season to date.

"When I came here as a freshman, the senior class took us in and showed us how much the Cabela's School of the Year title meant," said University of North Alabama Junior and Lion Bass Team Vice President, Evan Horne. "Finishing second in the school of the year rankings two years ago was slap in the face. Now that we have a title win under our belt, we know the feeling and we don't want to let it go."

Wade Middleton, Director of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and President of CarecoTV, stated that "the competition is beyond fierce this year. Teams are willing to travel thousands of miles to compete and earn points for the Cabela's School of the Year rankings and it has been very exciting to see how the standings change each month before we crown this year's winner in a few short months."

Horne stated that "the competition is crazy! When we got into college fishing, we competed against guys that are now fishing professionally. Now it's new faces and faces that we will see again in the pro circuits in a few years down the road. It's still just as competitive and will probably become stronger every year."

The competition has definitely gotten greater each year from school to school, but with more school sanctioned events in conjunction with the opportunity to earn double points in the Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series events, the magnitude of the competition has increased as well.

"With the 2015 Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series season about to get started, the Cabela's School of the Year title is far from being won just yet. The series events are double points events and could be very advantageous for schools that aren't able to fish a lot of tournaments throughout the year," Middleton added.

As much as the Cabela's School of the Year Title is desired by the Lion Bass Team, they also have their eyes set on creating a legacy for their incoming anglers.

"We want to create a dynasty before we leave and put the team in better hands so they can carry on the task of trying to win the Cabela's School of the Year Title," said Horne. "A college bass team is what drew half the team into going to this school, which just goes to show how much this title means to our team."
