T/C Encore Pro Hunter Turkey

By: Wade Middleton

From the first time I shot the Thompson/Center Encore Pro Hunter Turkey model there was no doubt it was designed to take out a turkey. Available in 12-or 20-guage, the Encore Pro Hunter Turkey is chambered for 3” shells and features Thompson/Center’s popular break-open single-shot design. With adjustable sights with fiber optic inserts, the gun packs a punch and a clear sight picture all day.

You can easily mount a scope on it which is how I personally prefer to use the Pro Hunter Turkey model.  When shooting in heavy timber the open sights that it comes standard with would be the way to go.  I suggest working with both to find the right set up for you.  One advantage to the scope mounts, especially for new hunters, is with this shotgun when you put the circle or dot on the birds neck you’re simply going to punish him.

This is a shotgun that I’ve sent out with many first time, as well as, seasoned hunters alike when they visit our camp to go turkey hunting. After spending time on the range and in the field with them I feel this shotguns performance is second to none when it comes time to put the smack down on an old wily tom.  We’ve shot birds well out to 60 yards with factory 3 inch turkey loads in 5 shot thanks to the built in extra full turkey choke the shotgun comes with.

A few of the great features on this gun that I like are its shorter barrel and lighter weight for those long days of calling and moving around.   The short barrel really shines in those moments when you’ve got to move to get that shot thus you’ve got less moving around while maneuvering to get a shot.
